Ladies League round-up - Wembdon Ladies win their first game

Week two of the Somerset Ladies League saw victories for Wembdon & Bath 2nd XI.

In a game reduced to 20 overs due to an accident on the M5, early pacesetters Minehead batted first and posted a below par 68-9, Ellie Holdaway was the pick of the Bath bowlers with 2 wickets for no runs, Emily Knight (2-11) and Gwyn West (2-17) chipped in with valuable spells. Bath then went about chasing the total in a professional manner and lost just one wicket on their way to 69 in 16 overs, securing their second victory of the season.

Performance of the day goes to Wembdon Ladies who won their first ever match at this level with a five wicket victory over Wells. Wells batted first but thanks to excellent bowling from Wembdon's Tonicha Lee (4-12) and Stephanie Newton (3-22) could only post 76, Wells had Corinna Thompson's 12 to thank for preventing an even lower total. Wembdon's reply started nervously with Ceri Cooper (3-14) reducing Wembdon to 17-3 but that was as good as it got for Wells as Nicole Morris (9*) and Lois Sellick (19*) steadied the ship and saw Wembdon home for a well-deserved first victory.
