The Somerset County Finals of the ECB Vitality U13 and U15 National Club T20 competition took place at Bedminster CC on Sunday 1st July.
With the venue and both pitches in excellent condition, the weather once again proved perfect for a brilliant afternoon of club cricket.
The Under 13 final was contested between Lansdown CC and Taunton-St-Andrews CC, both teams winning through from their repsective league competitions.
The fast scoring conditions and good wicket proved to be well suited to the strong St Andrews batting line up. At the ned of their 20 overs they posted a huge total of 198 for 2.
An awesome diaplay of striking saw Josh Thomas, Toby Warner, Jay Terry and Alex Parsons all reach 30 runs in quick time, before having to retire. In addition Toby Lee was run out for 29 at the end of the innings.
The Lansdown team stuck to their task admirably in hot conditions, keeping up a high standard of fielding and commitment throughout the innings. The pick of their bowlers being an economical spell from Eric Steady and Guy Donovan finishing his overs with 1 for 45.
In reply Lansdown made a positive effort to chase down the large total, with key contributions coming from Noah Davis with 30 retired and Fergus Kerr hitting a quick fire 19.
The St Andrews bowlers were always in control and limited their opponents to a total of 86 all out. The pick of their strong bowling attack being Elliot Warner with 2 for 11 and Nathan Yarde finishing with 2 for 14.
The final was played in an excellent spirit and proved to be a great experience for not only all of the players, but also the large number of spectators in attendance from both clubs.
In the Under 15 final Claverham CC and Taunton-St-Andrews CC provided a thrilling and high quality match for the spectators to enjoy.
Batting first Claverham produced a strong bowling and fielding display to limit their opponents to 110 all out. The pick of a fine all round performace being Louis Woodland with 1 for 13 and Samual Tall with 2 for 14.
The St Andrews total was built around an excellent 42 from Jacob Hockey, who held the innings together after the loss of early wickets. The innings was boosted with a hard hitting 28 from Jamie Lee, enabling them to post a competitive score.
A tense and competitive reply from Claverham followed, with the game in the balane right up until the closing overs.
Runs were hard to come by against a strong St Andrews bowling and fielding unit, with Toby Lawrence making 21, Louis Woodland 28 and Callum Watts 15.
The St Andrews bowlers worked hard to ensure victory for their side, with economical spells from Freddie Wolfendon and Joseph Parsons conceding just 8 and 9 runs respectively at the start of the innings. These spells were backed up by 2 for 21 from Jamie Lee and an excellent all round fielding performance.
The Claverham innings eventualy closed on 91 for 6, falling just short 19 runs short of their target.
Again a fiercly competitive game was played in a friendly spirit, by two very talented club teams
The Somerset Cricket Board would like to express their appreciation to all the players, managers and parents for their support during Sunday’s competition.
All of the matches were run by neutral umpires provided by the SCB and many thanks go to Guy Austin, Dave Philips, Sam Hollingshead and Dick Whittington for their commitment and expertise.
In addition a huge thank you goes to all the groundstaff and volunteers at Bedminster CC, for providing excellent hospitality, facilities and pitches for both the players and spectators to enjoy.
