School of the Month Award

School of the Month - January 2018 - West Chinnock C of E Primary School

Congratulations to West Chinnock Primary School who are the January (and first) winners of the Somerset Cricket Board ‘School of the Month’ Award.

They will receive a trip to the Cooper Associates County Ground for up to 30 of their pupils where they will meet some of the Somerset stars, train in the Centre of Excellence and have a tour of the ground.

West Chinnock were nominated by one of their School Governers who said: ‘we play a number of matches each year as well as hosting their own mini tournament inviting other locals schools. We also have a coach who regularly delivers cricket in schools and have a great link with our local cricket club where pupils are actively signposted to. In short, cricket is prioritised in terms of time spent during and out of school hours. We have seen an improvement from all the children, teachers and parents not just in playing ability, but just as importantly in understanding the rules, sportsmanship and promoting the friendly environment that is key to enjoying the game. We also attended one of the Women’s World Cup matches last year’.
