2018 Indoor Competitions

U13 Boys County Final – Wednesday 7th March

The U13 Boys Indoor County Final took place on Wednesday 7th March in the Centre of Excellence at the CA County Ground. Of the original 18 teams who entered the competition across the county four teams made it to the final; those being: Castle, Maiden Beech, Gordano and St Katherines.

In the first semi final Gordano comfortably beat Maiden Beech bowling them out for 30 having set them a target of 83 to win. The second semi final proved to be a thriller with St Katherines chasing down Castle’s impressive score of 96/3 off the last ball of the game.

In the 3rd place playoff Castle were able to chase down the 68 set for them to win by Maiden Beech. They won by 4 wickets with 4 balls to spare. In the final St Katherines batted first and got off to a flyer, scoring 50 without loss after the first 4 overs. Gordano pegged them back in the last four overs with St Katherines finishing on 82/6. Gordano ran well between the wickets and were always ahead of the rate eventually winning by 4 wickets with an over to spare and therefore become U13 County Champions for 2018.

The players were treated to a Q and A with Somerset stars Jack Leach and Tim Groenewald before they handed out the medals and trophy to finish a fantastic winter of boys indoor cricket.


U15 Boys County Final – Tuesday 6th March

The U15 Boys Indoor County Final took place on Tuesday 6th March in the Centre of Excellence at the CA County Ground. Of the original 14 teams who entered the competition across the county four teams made it to the final; those being: Holyrood, Beechen Cliff, Castle and Oldfield.

In the first semi final Beechen Cliff fell just short of 100, finishing on 98/3 with four batters retiring. Holyrood always had wickets in hand but were never able to score quickly enough finally finishing on 68/5. In the second semi final Castle beat Oldfield convincingly scoring 102/5 with Oldfield finishing on 46/6.

In the 3rd place playoff Oldfield were able to chase down the 63 set for them to win by Holyrood. They won by 6 wickets with 7 balls to spare. In the final Castle batted first and were never allowed to score easily thanks to some fantastic bowling from Beechen Cliff. Castle finished on 49/7. Beechen Cliff were always on course to chase down the target and apart from a small wobble won by 4 wickets with 15 balls to spare to be crowned U15 County Champions for 2018.

That just left Somerset T20 Captain Lewis Gregory to hand out medals and trophies, and for everyone to reflect on a fantastic morning of cricket played with a great attitude from all teams.
